16 - 20 March 2026

Each year, Neurodiversity Celebration Week brings people together around the world to recognise, understand, and celebrate the diversity of human minds. In 2026, the week runs from 16 – 20 March and encourages communities, workplaces, schools, and professionals to reflect on how we value and support different ways of thinking.

At Serenity Occupational Therapy, we believe that embracing neurodiversity is essential to building inclusive environments where individuals can thrive in their everyday lives, roles, and occupations.

What Is Neurodiversity?

Neurodiversity refers to the natural variation in how human brains function. People think, process information, communicate, and experience the world in different ways depending on how their brains are wired.

The term often includes individuals with neurological differences such as:

  • Autism

  • ADHD

  • Dyslexia

  • Dyspraxia (DCD)

  • Dyscalculia

  • Tourette’s syndrome

Importantly, neurodiversity recognises that these differences are part of natural human diversity, rather than deficits that need to be “fixed.” Instead, it encourages a balanced understanding of both strengths and challenges.

Research suggests that 15–20% of the population has a neurological difference, highlighting just how common and important neurodiversity is within our communities.

The Purpose of Neurodiversity Celebration Week

Founded in 2018 by Siena Castellon, Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a global initiative that aims to challenge stereotypes and shift how society perceives neurological differences.

The week focuses on:

  • Promoting understanding and acceptance

  • Celebrating the strengths of neurodivergent individuals

  • Providing education and resources

  • Encouraging more inclusive cultures in schools, workplaces, and communities

By highlighting the talents, creativity, and perspectives of neurodivergent people, the initiative helps move conversations from awareness toward meaningful change.

The Focus for 2026: From Awareness to Action

This year’s events emphasise moving from awareness to action, particularly in organisations and workplaces.

Across the week, global webinars and discussions explore topics such as:

  • Building the case for neuroinclusion

  • Embedding inclusive practices in recruitment and employment

  • Neuroinclusive leadership

  • Reducing barriers and scaling support systems

  • Using innovation and data to drive lasting change

The goal is to share practical ideas and best practice so that neurodiversity is not only recognised but meaningfully supported in everyday environments.

Why Neurodiversity Matters

When environments are inclusive of different thinking styles, everyone benefits. Neurodivergent individuals often bring valuable strengths such as:

  • Creative problem solving

  • Innovative thinking

  • Attention to detail

  • Strong pattern recognition

  • Unique perspectives

However, many of the challenges neurodivergent people experience arise not from their neurology, but from environments and systems designed with a narrow view of how people should learn, work, and interact.

Recognising neurodiversity encourages us to design systems that support a wider range of needs, abilities, and ways of participating in everyday life.

The Role of Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy plays an important role in supporting neurodivergent individuals to participate in meaningful daily activities.

Occupational therapists focus on helping people engage in the occupations that matter to them, including:

  • Work and education

  • Daily living activities

  • Social participation

  • Leisure and hobbies

  • Community engagement

Rather than trying to change how a person’s brain works, occupational therapy often focuses on adapting environments, routines, and expectations so that individuals can function in ways that align with their strengths.

At Serenity Occupational Therapy, we recognise that every individual’s experiences, abilities, and goals are unique.

How You Can Celebrate Neurodiversity

Neurodiversity Celebration Week is an opportunity for everyone to take part in building more inclusive communities.

You might choose to:

  • Learn more about different neurodivergent experiences

  • Listen to and amplify neurodivergent voices

  • Reflect on how environments can become more inclusive

  • Challenge stereotypes and misconceptions

  • Celebrate the strengths and talents of neurodivergent individuals

Small changes in awareness and understanding can make a significant difference in creating environments where people feel accepted and valued.

Celebrating Different Minds

Neurodiversity reminds us that there is no single “right” way to think, learn, or experience the world. Human diversity includes the many different ways our brains work.

During Neurodiversity Celebration Week 2026, Serenity Occupational Therapy celebrates the creativity, innovation, and individuality that neurodivergent people bring to our communities.

When different minds are valued, everyone benefits.
