At Serenity Occupational Therapy, we’re proud to recognise and support Glad to Care Awareness Week 2025 - www.gladtocare.com - taking place across the UK from 16 June 2025 until 20 June 2025. This national campaign is dedicated to celebrating the invaluable work of carers, healthcare professionals, and support workers who make a difference every single day in the lives of others.

What is Glad to Care Awareness Week?

Glad to Care Awareness Week is an annual opportunity to shine a light on the compassion, resilience, and dedication of those working across the care sector. From care home staff to community healthcare professionals, including occupational therapists, carers provide essential support that helps individuals live with dignity, independence, and improved wellbeing.

This year’s theme of wellbeing continues to highlight the importance of recognising carers’ contributions, sharing their stories, and raising awareness of the vital role care plays in our communities — particularly as we continue to navigate the long-term impacts of the pandemic, rising mental health challenges, and increasing demand for personalised care.

The Role of Occupational Therapy in Care

At Serenity Occupational Therapy, we see first-hand how occupational therapy plays a crucial part in supporting both individuals and carers:

  • Supporting carers' wellbeing: Carers often face emotional, physical, and mental strain. Occupational therapy can offer coping strategies, stress management, and practical support to help prevent burnout.

  • Promoting independence: Our tailored interventions empower individuals to regain independence in their daily routines, reducing the strain on carers.

  • Adapting environments: We help identify environmental modifications and practical aids that make daily tasks safer and easier, improving quality of life for both the individual and their carer.

  • Mental health support: Carers and those they support may experience anxiety, depression, or emotional overwhelm. Occupational therapy provides structured, person-centred interventions that promote resilience and emotional wellbeing.

Why Glad to Care Awareness Week Matters

This week serves as a powerful reminder to recognise and appreciate the work of those who care for others. It also highlights the need for continued support, training, and resources to enable carers to maintain their own wellbeing while delivering compassionate care.

At Serenity Occupational Therapy, we stand with all carers — whether you are a family member, healthcare worker, support professional, or friend — and we celebrate the incredible difference you make.
